Job hunting is exhausting. You check LinkedIn, Indeed, and half a dozen other sites every morning, filter through irrelevant postings, and somehow still feel like you're missing good opportunities. It's repetitive, draining, and the kind of work an AI agent should be doing for you.

, Vercel's new open-source framework for building AI agents, I put together a job search agent that scans two job boards every morning and delivers a curated digest of relevant roles straight to my inbox. No more manual searching. It just shows up, like a really well-organized assistant who never sleeps.

Here's exactly how I built it, step by step.

By the end of this post you'll have an AI agent that:

Searches Adzuna and Remotive every morning for roles matching your skills

Combines the results into a clean, readable digest

Emails it to you automatically on a schedule

Runs in the cloud on Vercel without you touching it again

No frontend. No dashboard. Just a quiet agent doing useful work in the background every single day.

Think of it like hiring an assistant and handing them a folder of instructions. That folder tells them who they are, what tools they have, and when to show up for work. In eve, that folder is just a directory of files on your computer. Add a file, add a capability. Remove it, and it's gone. No complicated setup, no boilerplate to register.

eve is filesystem-first. It's a complete agent in a folder tree you can read at a glance. If you've used 

 before, the philosophy will feel immediately familiar. Skills live in a 

 folder. Convention over configuration, all the way down.

Before we begin, make sure you are running a version of Node that's >= 24. You can install and use the latest version of Node by running this in your terminal:

Now we're ready to scaffold our project we'll name 

. Navigate to the folder where you want to build this project and run:

This will trigger installing dependencies and setup instructions with a series of questions to ask. The first question being: How would you like to continue? You can use an AI agent, but for this exercise let's be a bit more manual that work off vibes.

Step 2: Understand your Agent's Two Core Files

After setup, you'll find two files already created for you. Before you edit anything, add your OpenAI API key to your

The first file connects your agent to OpenAI's model:

The second file is your agent's job description. It reads this before every single task:

Customize this to your own background. The more specific you are, the more relevant your daily digest will be.

This is where your agent goes from a smart assistant to a genuinely useful one. Each tool is its own file inside a 

 folder. eve picks them up automatically by filename. A file named

Your agent asks Adzuna for real job listings matching your role and location, then returns a clean list with titles, companies, salaries, and direct links.

 is a free remote tech job board with no API key required. It's perfect for a second source:

No sign-up, no API key. Remotive's API is completely open and focused exclusively on remote tech roles. It's a great complement to Adzuna's broader coverage.

Together, these two tools give your agent two independent sources of job listings every morning, automatically combined into one digest.

Step 4: Send the Digest to your Inbox with Resend

eve and Vercel don't handle email sending natively. You need a dedicated email service for that. My favorite option for this setup is 

. It's built for developers, free for up to 3,000 emails per month, and takes a few minutes to set up.

Finally, add an email tool so your agent can send the digest:

One important note: Resend requires you to verify a domain before sending emails. If you have a domain like 

 you can verify it in the Resend dashboard in a few minutes by adding a DNS record. If you don't have a domain yet, Resend also lets you send to your own email address for testing without a verified domain, which is perfect for getting this working before you go live.

This is the part that makes everything click. One file tells your agent when to wake up and run:

 line is just a standard way to express a schedule. 

 means "9am, Monday through Friday." Free tools like 

 let you write and test these expressions without memorizing the format.

. It's the same reliable infrastructure that powers scheduled tasks across millions of production apps. Your agent wakes up, runs the tools, compiles the digest, and sends it. Then it goes back to sleep until tomorrow.

Deploying your agent works exactly like deploying a Next.js app on Vercel. An eve agent is an ordinary Vercel project, so if you've shipped a web app on Vercel before, this will feel instantly familiar.

 automatically redeploys your agent. Just push and it's live. Every commit also gets a preview deployment, so you can test changes before they affect your live daily digest.

This is the part most tutorials skip, so let's be specific about what you actually get.

Your agent compiles into an app that runs on 

. There's no server to manage, no container to babysit. Vercel handles all of it.

. Monday through Friday at 7am, your agent wakes up automatically, runs both job search tools, and emails you the digest. You don't have to do anything.

You can monitor every run in the Vercel dashboard. Every run produces a trace, so if something goes wrong, you can see exactly what happened.

For reference this agent makes 4 requests to the OpenAI API and uses about 15,000 tokens each time the cron job runs. That costs about $0.04/run, so you'll spend less than $1.00/month in AI costs to run this agent.

There's no frontend yet. No URL to visit, no chat interface to open. Just a quiet, reliable agent doing useful work in the background every weekday morning. That's intentional and the point. The best agents are the ones you forget are running until they deliver something valuable.
